Propane will definitely switch to a gas, if inj'd after IC as a liquid, and precool/densify the charge. Water will not go to gas after an IC in most cases ... needs 250F to do it at 15-20 psig. It will cool precharge due to conduction as a mass.

In the chamber, propane has high octane rating (105 aki). This allows high temps/pressures w/o detonation. Temp and pressure result from combustion, and pressure pushes the piston. Water has 'high octane effect' by sucking up heat in chamber (high lhv) ... but also drops pressure in process ... mabe offset somewhat by steam pressure.

Too many variables to say which is superior, and under what constraints. Both work, and water inj'n is much simpler. Some of those 3k-gt guys were getting big puwer gains with propane. Only a careful dyno test would show which path has max hp capability ... for that specific engine package.
