I have e-mailed Maptun telling them what I want (Aero stage 2) and asking what I need to send, but don't expect to receive an response for a few days. In the meantime, I have been to my local Saab dismantler to enquire about buying a T5 ECU to send off for upgrading. I went in with the idea that any 9000 Turbo ECU from '94 on would do, which I still believe is correct (the subject has been discussed here before). However, they seemed to be of the opinion that the range of suitable ECUs was limited. I believe they are mistaken and are confusing software functionality with hardware.

So, first: Will an LPT ECU do just as well? They appear to have loads of these, so I can probably get a good deal on one. Apparently, Abbott Racing gets most of the FPT units, and are this company's biggest customer for ECUs. Presumably, the chances are slim of getting an LPT ECU with a blown BPC output :)

Second: They seemed to think I needed a specific ECU because my car is fitted with the Saab Vehicle Security System, which includes an immobiliser. I can see why Trionic gets involved with this system, but again, is it all down to software or is the hardware different?

I realise that what I want to do is out of the ordinary as far as they are concerned, and they are used to different ECU part numbers for different applications, but I want to know I am right before I go back to buy. Then again, they do deal with Abbott Racing, so you'd think they'd know something...

Finally, of course, I'll get a part number from them and check it with Maptun before I buy it.
