Personally I think the best way is to have the spray activated by a pressure switch in conjunction with a manual "mad max switch" that toggles between ALWAYS ON/PRESSURE SWITCHED/OFF.
That's how mine is set up anyhows. 8D
Working off shift lights is a bad idea IMHO, you won't get the full advantage of having the spray there, and by the time you do the IC is likely to already be saturated (esp in 5th!!)
"Autospeed" did a really good article on IC sprays, you may still be able to find it on their site.
