To use a Dawes-type relief valve in conjunction with APC, install between solenoid and wastegate. If you are confident that your car never knocks below a certain psi and you always use good gas, adjust the valve for that pressure. More conservative approach would be to adjust it to 6-7 psi. APC drops boost down to base boost when serious knock is detected. If you set the valve above that, then you lose some degree of engine safety - the APC will not be able to drop boost enough.
The valve + APC approach allows for quicker spool-up by preventing the wastegate from cracking open @ initial, low boost pressures. It does not affect maximum boost. Max boost numbers on the Dawes site are for MBC only.
btw, Dawes is purchasing simple adjustable brass relief valves from McMaster-Carr, Grainger or whomever for probably $5-6 apiece, adding a couple barbed connectors & hose for a couple bucks more, and retailing to you.
