Sachs or Bilstein TC-Which softer? Which "better"?

I have a 1996 900s Non-Turbo, so it's not tricked out like all you lucky guys and your chips and your turbos and all...
But, I need new struts and shocks and i've been taking my sweet time researching them because of how much it will affect 'feel'.
I don't like my friends Bilstein HD, they shake the fillings out of my teeth, so I want to back off a bit from that sort of stiffness, yet still maintain good handling and quality. Therefore, I have not only decided against Koni/Bilstein HD, but on the other end, against Monroe and Gabriel, and as far as quality, I hear KYB is great for one year, but not much more...
that leaves the stock sachs/boge (which I like I guess, though i never felt them new as I bought the car when it was already 4 years old) and also Bilstein TC, which i hear are not as good as the HD, but which are softer or stiffer and which are better or worse quality and why?
thanks
tom.
