I swear the turbo will be the very last thing on my car to die. I almost religiously let it idle at least 10 seconds, though far more frequently about 20+ seconds, before shutdown. But beyond that, I also drive gently, ie no boost whatsoever, for the last minute or two before shutdown. If I have been driving it hard, I let it idle considerably longer than 20 seconds. Oh, and the engine did NOT get synthetic oil, just Castrol 15w40 or 10w30, until the engine needed replacing at 256k. Now it gets Mobil 1 thanks to considerably higher boost.
Just how long do you plan to keep the car? Is letting it idle before shutdown just a crimp in your lifestyle (some people would say yes - valid point I suppose, if you deliver pizza or something). :)
