yes. some have an anti-lag features that greatly retard timing at idle and heats up the exhaust, then when you hit it, timing goes normal and turbo is right there. you can also program the boost controller with a more controlled spike. meaning set the valve for max boost from say 500 rpm to 2500 rpm, when you know max boost could not be achieved because of turbo inertia. then gradually taper the setting to the desired boost setting. it would take time to get dialed in, but you get the picture. finally, you could advance the timing on the off boost sections of the map. meaning heavy throttle, low boost, more advance. then as boost climbs, retard timing to prevent predet. both of these last two methods i was using to get more lower end power from my new ecu (that was until the mishap..), and it works quite well. as far as sending someone an ecu and saying hey, give me less lag, i think it could be done to a certain extent, but the max benefit will come from tuning it while it is installed in your car with your specific setup.
