I would think that the best way to increase spool would be to replace the APC system altogether with an aftermarket EBC. On the other hand, those are about as expensive as a good ECU upgrade which would probably give you similar results. Tweakable boost or knock protection, take your pick. =)
A large downpipe can also be a good spool assistant.
