On a given size gauge, and assuming the same degrees of needle sweep (usually 270), if you have a boost only gauge, there will be much more space between each psi mark. So theoretically, the reading of it, if not the actual measurement, could be more accurate with boost only. But who's going to argue about half a psi here or there? Ok, somebody, just not me. :)
I like having a vacuum side, because it's a good indicator whether you have a vacuum leak. It should read 18-20 inHG at idle, and depending on incline and speed, should read generally 22-26 inHG coasting. Also, it's a nifty little grade indicator. Once you know what it reads on a level road, with cruise set at a certain speed, you'll know that it will have less vacuum (more engine load) going up a hill, or into a headwind. It could be used as a MPG indicator too - the more vacuum, the more MPG, but this is rather redundant on a 9000.
