The resistor fools the ECU to run leaner to compensate for the richness from the 30lb injectors. A side benefit is the ECU doesn't "see" the overboost conditions to shut down your fuel pump. I put in a variable resistor at the AMM orange wire to find right resistance by trial and error. For my 90 with LH 2.4, 150 ohms was about right. At 300 I was too lean and began getting some nice exhaust pops!! I have a hunch that there is some car to car variation, maybe it's AMM variation, maybe ECU???
I am curious how you get 20 lbs boost now absent the resistor, without hitting fuel pump shut off. Do you know what the max retard is? The only way I can imagine getting that much boost without fuel shut off is if you are reducing power significantly by very high retard. Net effect is high boost but not max power.
