Greetings, all.
Several weeks back, I received many helpful comments and posts on the question of new performance tires for my modified 87 SPG, the Stealthbomber. (Mods listed below.) As others were following the thread, I thought I'd post preliminary results.
First, the reference point: the last set of summer performance tires on the Stealthbomber were Pirelli P-7000s. (NOT the supersport all-season but the summer tire.) These were, hands down, the best performance tire I had ever used, on any car, to that point in time. Their only shortcoming, in my book, was VERY short tread life. I got 3 summers... and in Minnesota, with my travel schedule, that just isn't very many miles. But LORDY, did they hold the road. Due to the limited treadwear, and after helpful posts on this BBS, I decided to try the Pole Position S-03s.
The Bridgestones have been on the Stealthbomber about a month now. I haven't had a chance to really push these tires yet, but it is significant that the few times I've had empty freeway ramps or open-vista turns, I HAVE YET TO FIND THE LIMITS ON THESE TIRES. It may be that nothing short of track time or an autocross circuit will show their limits.
My preliminary assessment is that these may be every bit as tenacious as the P-7000, or even better, despite a quieter ride and longer-rated treadlife.
My, my, the wonders of technology.
Happy trails.

Modestly Modified: Open K&N, sport exhaust, 24 lb injectors, SPG9 AID, rewired APC, overboost circuit defeated, tranny pinion upgraded (rebuilt motor (cracked piston) and tranny last fall). Boosting 7/8 red on a good day and wishing for open road.
