Many years ago I replaced the box that came with my SPG with a Red Box, new in box, from the dealership. High praise from the parts department, but results were very disappointing. Maybe the SPG box was different than the OEM, but I didn't see a lot of benefit other than the color. It looked good, but I didn't spend the money for under-the-hood cosmetics.

A few years ago, I tweaked the Red Box per Kevin K's recommendations. Now THAT was an improvement; for the first time I saw a little red boost. Not much, but the salivation had begun.

Several mods later, I dug out the old black SPG box and modified the wiring per one of the sites. (Tweakers, if I recall correctly.) SHAZAM, now we're cooking. I can hit 7/8 red boost and hold 1/2 red when the demand is there.

My conclusions: don't spend the money on a red box unless you're more interested in the color than the performance. Spend the money instead on an aftermarket modified box. (But do support it with the other mods necessary to support and sustain the increased boost safely.)

Luck to all.

Modestly modified: open K&N, sport exhaust, SPG9 AID, 3.0 FPR, 24 lb injectors, rewired APC, overboost switch disabled. Dreaming of a RRFPR, big fat intercooler pipes, and maybe an intercooler upgrade, but otherwise the engine mods are about at the performance target.
