... if you had your Trionic ECU reprogrammed, how would they know? They could drive the car, I suppose...

So far as I know, a Saab dealer warranty here in the UK would be invalidated by any power-enhancement mod. The Saab-approved Hirsch upgrades are only available for later Saabs here, I believe. I think it would be OK to upgrade suspension, as long as the warranty claim was not on the upgraded parts. I don't know how warranties work in other countries. Are you in the US?

Power on my '96 Aero (manual) is probably 240hp+ with my JT 3" turbo-back exhaust (warranty problems again?) and K&N filter with modified airbox. My Aero was one of the few fitted at the factory with the restrictive heatplate and uprated Trionic software to compensate, so removing the heatplate but not the software gave a worthwhile performance boost at the top end.

If your new Aero is an auto, you might want to consider going easy on the power upgrades as the auto gearbox is significantly less robust than the manual. For this reason, the auto comes with the smaller turbo and a torque-limited version of the 200hp engine instead of the larger Mitsubishi turbo and 225hp high-torque engine of the manual Aero.

I'd be surprised if you car still had the stock tyres. However, if you mean stock size, they're fine if you use good tyres. I have Bridgestone S-03s, standard size (205/55/16), on my Aero, along with Abbott springs, Koni dampers and SuperFlex bushes. Cornering is amazing and I get zero wheelspin and zero detectable torque steer (in the dry) from 2nd gear up.

I may consider going a bit wider (225/50/16) next time I go tyre shopping, depending on what I find when I fit my Maptun ECU (to arrive shortly). I'll try the standard size tyres I already have first, though.
