Jim - I upgraded the springs in summer of '99 to B&G. Shock upgrades weren't yet available. This greatly improved cornering and eliminated nose dive with braking. However, a good sized dip would compress the springs and the rebound was not adequately controlled by the stock shocks.
In fall 2000, I added a set of Bilstein Sports when they became available. Very sweet set up. At the time I was running 225/50-16 (plus zero) tire set up. I then got 17x8" wheels and now use 225/45-17. I get a little fender well rub with extreme compression - the outer edge of the tire - but overall it is quite good. The 17" set up decreased gas mileage 1-2 mpg. The wheels are the same Ronal sold at Saab dealers, so it must be the suspension combination that results in the occasional rub.
