... chances are that the program is mask-ROMmed (program incorporated in the processor mask during chip manufacture), with the EPROM simply used to store the maps that vary from one application to another. That's why the part has a Bosch number - it is only Bosch who ever buy that particular processor/program combination. That way, Bosch use the same program for all cars with 2.4.2, which I wouldn't find surprising. Also, the development guys at the car manufacturers don't get the chance to (accidentally or otherwise) screw up the program code when they are developing their fuel maps, nor does anyone get the chance to steal Bosch's program code.
It would satisfy my curiosity to know what the processor is, but if it really is mask-ROMmed, then it doesn't really matter.
