You have the double vented hood, with the two sets of vents? On an 88? I know it will fit any 900, but did you add it on there? Or did it come to you that way?
The second vent sits directly overtop of the brake master cylinder and reservoir. Water damage due to the vent there caused Saab to discontinue this hood. I don't think there's enough clearance below it to efficiently make use of the vent. The air pressure there is good, but not as good as right at the front of the car (where the air filter is, anyway) nor as good as directly at the base of the windshield. That's the other, and more stealty option, is to have the windshield edge of the hood rolled, like they roll fenders for wide tires. This would enable cowl induction, a la Chevy Chevelle's from 1968 - 1972. If you keep A/C in the car, this might pose a problem with this set up.
As far as keeping water out, muscle cars did it with baffles in line. To me, this is a good and bad idea. While it keeps the water (and anything else besides air) out, it's a restriction in the system. AEMs air intake bypass valve (post re-call) is the best idea. I can't explain it as well as they can: http://www.aem.com/
Good luck, and let us know how it goes. :o)
