The long-awaited Speedparts T25/28 Stage II turbo finally arrived, courtesy of Enström Motorsport. This was installed in my '91 9000 earlier this week, along with a new head gasket, and a reconditioned cylinder head.
Looks like some experimentation is needed to make it work though- out of the box base boost is 11 PSI, resulting in an unacceptable 30LBS+MAX pressure! The mechanic backed the base pressure off to 6 PSI, and now the car drives like a real dog-pressure only starts building at around 4500 RPM at the top of 3rd gear and reaches about 14 PSI by the time I'm going too fast for the law.
So for now, I'll have to find a base pressure somewhere between 6 and 11 PSI. I know this is probably bad for knock protection, too.
The other wrinkle is I've got a chip set from SQR in there-Frank has offered to supply me with modified chips if I need them, and it looks as though I will.
Ah well, nothing's as simple as it sounds.
