You're right, I don't know. You might ask here:

Sorry, but this is indeed technical.
Maybe you know who to forward this to.
On the following page:
http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/press/020626.html
Toward the bottom of the page are Boost Pressure specifications for
the Pike's Peak car.
"(3.0 bar or 42.8 psi)"
This information is not specific enough nor clear, and I really want
to know the truth. I'll try to be explain here:
Usually when we put air into our tires we think in terms of pounds per
square inch and refer to this as psi or just pounds. So if we put 28
pounds into our tire we don't think much about it.
However for the technical it is more correctly
psig (pounds per square inch guage) the pressure that a normal guage would read.
However psig is the pressure above atmospheric pressure which is 14.7
psia (pounds per square inch absolute)
So our 28 pounds is really 14.7 pounds higher or 42.7 psia.
Where the dilemma comes in is that usually BAR is an absolute value
already taking into account the atmospheric pressure. So when BAR and
psi are used in the same sentence it leaves doubt as to what was
actually said.
Specifically 3.0 BAR = 43.5 psia or 28.8 psig
Either the car has 42.8 psia or 28.1 psig boost.
Which is it?
