Hi Julian
I have a similar situation, that is I want more power but there is no way I'm selling my 83 900 gle, and I can't afford to own 2 cars. So what I'm doing is when anything needs replacement I replace it with something that should give me more power.
The first thing I did was the air filter. A drop in K&N, pipercross or any other "performance" filter is easy and you will never have to buy a nother one.
Next my exhaust system was falling apart: Time for something bigger. I had a shop that specialises in exhaust repairs fit a turbo exhaust from the Y-pipe back (this might be a little more tricky for you as you probably have a catalytic converter). The difference was greater by far than I had expected (I realy was not expecting enything more than a louder exhaust note and possibly some mental hp (placebo effect:)) but the power gain was there.
As my saab will be turning 20 years old in 6 months the suspention coil springs were getting pretty fatigued. Again it's time for an upgrate. So now I'm waiting for my Kilen lowering springs to arrive.
Now I can't wait for the auto tranny to give up (I do hope it will last one more year tho caus I can't realy afford to have that big an upgrate yet) :o)
Good luck and happy Saabing
Thorir
