I was going to put my air filter in the fender well, but I ran out of room because of the charcoal air canister. I would go ahead and take it out. I ran the line from the gas tank, the thick one that runs next to the fuse box, down back toward the gas tank through the fender and put it coming out by the front of the driver's side door.
I asked some Saab mechs about doing this and they said the only down fall is that I would smell gas on a hot day. I now smell less than I did with the canister installed.
Hope this helps!
Nathan
