The coolant doesn't really spill much. Disconnect the top hose first, and you should spill less than a 1/4 cup of coolant. Then disconnect the bottom one, and make sure to tilt the hose upward quickly, and you will probably lose about 1/4 cup. Overall, hardly any coolant is lost.
The repair kit I used consisted of a plastic pipe that I could clamp both ends of the hoses onto. The kit came with 3 plastic pipes and 2 metal clamps but since the two hose ends already have clamps on them, you don't need anything other than one of the plastic pipes. Specifically, the one I used was for 3/8" to 1/2" internal diameter hose. All you really need is some way to connect the two hoses together so that coolant still flows through the system, just not through the throttle body.
