Check the ignition module. It's located by the apc box and it attached to a heat sink. Or possibly the distributer mounted hall effect switch, Or possibly the ignition amplifyer relay if the 88 has it. Any of these could lead to no tack signal which would cause the fuel pump relay to loose its ground on the control side. Another possibility would be the over boost switch up under the dash. Whether it is going bad or if it is sensing overboost which leads to fuel cut off. And one other thought would be spark plugs. I've had non NGK plugs such as Bosch Platinums in c900 have a problem alot like this around 2700 to 3000 rpm. And one last thought would be to check the plug wires especially the coil wire.
