Hi !
T7 is based on the MAF-information, (g/s -> mg/c)
T7 uses the MAF information for fuel and torque calculations at steady state, MAF based information is more accurate, in the long run.
(since a difference in VE will make A/F incorrect if the system is a "speed density" (MAP) based system.
The information from the MAP sensor is being used at transients, since the MAP sensor is closer to the "actual engine".
Between MAF and the intake valves there are quite a few inches....
So, there will be a delay between MAF reading and actual airmass delivery.
The MAP sensor will provide T7 with a much more accurate information at transients, just because it´s "close to the engine".
The engine will run quite fine, few drivers will notice, if either MAF or MAP is missing. (C.E. will come on)
If both MAF and MAP is missing, the engine will start but then it will stop, because there is NO information of airmass flow.
It´is not correct to say that T7 uses both MAF and MAP just for diagnose.
The MAF can be diagnosed on MY/2001 and later by comparing MAF airflow with calculated airmassflow from throttle area and "a few more inputs".
For a workshop it is extreamly useful to use readvalues for airmass/combustion based on MAF and MAP.
They should be equal at steady state driving, if not, it can be an airleakage or possibly a faulty sensor.
