TomJ,

I also own a 91 9000 cd turbo/ automatic, so far I've...

added new motor mounts
polyurethane upper mounts
poly tranny mount
the above has improved shifting, crisper shifts

(tomorrow installing poly control arm bushings)

added complete 3" JT exhaust / currently no cat
Hyperboost diverter valve / stratmosphere
K&N cone air filter
Clear corner lenses and sidemarkers
Tinted windows, removed pinstripes
VDO boost gauge, Autometer Air/fuel ratio gauge

The above mods have improved performance/ appearance and most importantly made my car even more fun to drive. So far I am very satisfied w/ my choices.

Now concerning the tranny, all the above mods have had no negative impact on it. If at all, my tranny is probably under less stress than from the day I got the car( 1 yr ago ).

Increasing boost is where I believe the tranny is at your mercy, the boost should be controlled/limited in the lower gears to preserve stock auto-tranny life.

after I improve my cars handling, I will begin my boost mods, My objective is to get the most control over boost, such as a way to control the amount of boost to my desired level per gear. I will also make sure I have adequate tranny cooling.

I think the ideal method of boost control would be a user-programmable ecu such as Haltech(which would also give you much much more user-defined control). or maybe an electronic boost controller such as the Apexi AVC type R boost controller. Also you could order a software upgrade like Maptun, which would be modified by the experienced.

All in all there is plenty of room for upgrading your 9000 cd w/ auto for better performance without compromising reliability.

I recommend starting with making the car breathe better, less restrictive air filter, free flowing exhaust, bigger downpipe. Or start with the suspension, springs, replacing & upgrading worn bushes, swaybar, rim & tire upgrades.

I get most of my Saab performance products from Bo Engstrom at http://www.engstrom.net, call him up he can get all kinds of performance parts and he has great prices too.

Also Eeuroparts.com has provided me with an invaluable service in acquiring saab parts for great prices, very fast, and free shipping w/$50 or more purchase.
