How critical is it to fine-tune AMM setting (long)? Posted by kenS [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Exactly how critical is the AMM adjustment for setting things up? Model is a 1987-900T, LH2.2, so it has the adjustment screw on the AMM. It was originally set by the dealer (resistance between pins 3 and 6) all the way up at 570 ohms, but the engine was running ok, closed loop O2 cycling between 1st red and first green LED on an AF meter (.05-.75V). I upgraded to a 2.8 bar FPR, and thought I would have to adjust the AMM to compensate, but it didn't seem to matter--- setting it anywere between 400 and 520 ohms seemed to work ok. I just installed a new set of 24# injectors, and it still doesn't seem to matter much--- I get closed loop anywhere between 300 and 500 ohms. I left it set at 340 ohms; at idle the O2 sensor swings between .05 and 0.8V (checked with a DVM between O2 sensor and battery ground). While accelerating, AF meter shows 2-3 green LED's.
Is it normal for the AMM to work ok over such a broad range of pot settings, or is there a procedure for fine tuning the thing? Should I try and adjust it when it is not in closed loop?
