Hey all,
Thought I would keep you up to date on the water injection system I'm working on. Currently all the parts are in the mail, on the way to my doorstep.
The following parts will be used with my system:
-SHURflo 100 PSI Water Pump
-Aquamist Atomizer Nozzle
-NOS Super Powershot Fuel Solenoid
-Hobbs 4 PSI Pressure Switch
-Fittings, Hosing, Etc
The SHURflo pump and NOS Solenoid were just ordered today online. I have the Aquamist nozzle sittng on my desk, and the Hobbs pressure switch is installed under my hood, awaiting to put power to a water pump & solenoid!
SHURflo 100 PSI Water Pump:
Cost: $80
Source: Pro-Spray (http://www.pro-spray.com/sprayer_pumps.htm)
(listed as "the ideal pump" on the website)
I talked with Brad @ George's Imports about the SHURflo pump, and he said it will put out enough pressure to work a water injection nozzle, intercooler mister nozzle, brake cooling system, and can still have enough pressure to wash the car. Buy the pump from that website while you can now. It is a special price online. That price will only last for another few days/week, and will then be raised to about $85.50 or something, the guy at Pro-Spray said.
Aquamist Atomizer Nozzle:

This is the same nozzle used in the Aquamist systems. Turns water into a fine fine mist. I got to see how well it works at SOC. It completely atomizes the water. The best nozzle you can buy for it's purpose. Ask to speak with Brad when you call/email. He is VERY VERY helpful, and will hook you up with all the parts you need. You can also buy the tried & true Aquamist system from him, which has amazing results.
NOS Super Powershot Fuel Solenoid:
Cost: $40 (used once, for a week-- new price is $70-$90)
Source: eBay (http://www.ebay.com)
Yes, I'm using a rice burner NOS fuel solenoid. I did a lot of research on it, and there is no other solenoid which compares in my opinion. Stainless steel & brass construction. If any solenoid will not allow any liquid/gas through, it's the NOS solenoid, because this would cause serious problems if nitrous oxide would enter the engine when it's not supposed to. The solenoid will allow liquid/gas to pass through when electronically activated. Stays closed up well even under high vacuum. The pump stills continues pumping water after the pressure switch cuts power to it, and that water isn't as highly pressurized, so it will trickle out the the nozzle... unless you get a solenoid! You don't want water entering your engine when you don't know it. Big damage ($$expensive$$!).
Hobbs 4 PSI Pressure Switch:
Cost: $25
Source: NAPA (http://www.napa.com)
This is a very simple device. Buy a T-fitting and some extra rubber/silicone hosing. Cut into a line on your intake manifold, add the T-fitting, and connect your spare hose to the pressure switch and the extra nipple on the T-fitting. I took power from one of the fuses in my fusebox, not sure which. It will activate the solenoid & the water pump when the turbo starts pushing 4 PSI. The solenoid & pump stay activated anywhere above 4 PSI.
Fittings, Hosing, Etc:
Cost: About $30
Source: NAPA (http://www.napa.com), George's Imports (http://www.kcsaab.com), local hardware store
You will need hosing and correct fittings to put all the hosing together. Bring your stuff along with you to NAPA or your local hardware store, and then play with all the fittings they have on the spot.
Well, that's it for now. I will post results once I have everything installed and working. This will work similar to the Aquamist 1s system (base system), which sprays the same amount of water at 4 PSI as it does at 22+ PSI. I wil eventually buy an Aquamist eletronic valve, which monitors the voltage to the fuel injectors, and makes the pump push more water when the amount of fuel increases.
I can't wait to get this all together! Be sure to check up on the progress. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask, and I can try to help with my limited knowledge on this subject.
Special thanks to Brad! Thanks for all the insight, motivation, your time, parts, and water @ very hot SOC! Brad is the water injection genius. If you have any technical questions, he can answer them no problem. Thanks again!
That's that!
Happy SAABing,
Taylor
