Hey all,
Another couple ideas from the little labratory in my head...
I was reading one of AutoSpeed's technical articles called "Frozen Facts" (link to article is below). It describes how spraying your intercooler with Electronic Freeze Spray before a run at the track can increase performance.
Well, as you can guess, I just got back from Radio Shack, and bought about 4 cans of it. Already went through one, spraying the intercooler, intercooler piping, and K&N filter. The intercooler pipes actually had frost on them! Didn't drive it afterwards. Just wasted a can to see how it worked to the touch.
(1) First idea...
After I read that article and did a little spraying, I got to thinking... Would it be possible to get some of this chemical (no CFCs & non-flammable) and store it in a small pressurized tank inside the cabin. Setup the chemical to spray the exterior of the intercooler with a nozzle and pressure switch. A toggle switch would need to be added, because the chemical squirts out fast, and would be used up quickly if used on a daily basis. Sure, many might say the effort wouldn't be worth it. I have most of the parts already, plenty of resources, the motivation, and the simple tools to do it. Just not sure where I could get the tank refilled at. Certainly it would make things colder nomatter how you look at it.
(2) And my second idea...
Adding octane booster, alcohol, etc, into my windshield washer resevoir for water injection systems. As some of you may remember Mike Connely's(sp?) parking lot speech at SOC 02... he said that adding a container of rubbing alcohol (the 91% stuff) into your gas tank everytime you get a full tank, it would decrease engine temperatures, plus it has roughly 110 octane too. Not bad, eh? Whether or not you buy into that idea or not (completely different topic!), you could add a container of the rubbing alcohol into your resevoir. The thing about octane booster, when you go to squirt your windshield washers, octane booster would spray up on your windshield, no good! I'd much rather have the alcohol being sprayed onto my expensive glass, personally. Imagine the benefit of the water injection system, spraying H2O into your engine, with the addition of higher octane at the same time while under high boost!
Finally...
These are just two simple ideas. Both are completely theory. I don't recommend trying either one of them without some research. I'm 100% sure there is someone on this board who knows a thing or two about both of the ideas, and a way to perfect them. Maybe a different pressurized/non-flammable/no CFC chemical could be used for the first idea. Or maybe someone knows an octane booster that would work in conjunction with the H2O injection, that would work better even better than alcohol or octane booster. Heck, maybe the freezer spray will destroy the engine, and I should stay away from even thinking about it! Or maybe the windshield washer fluid alone works better than the combo. Or maybe it doesn't. Just putting my thoughts out there!
Please, let me hear some feedback! I'd love to hear what you guys think.
Thanks!
Taylor
