Relatively easy stuff!

1990, 1991, and 1992 9000Ts came with LH 2.4 and an APC/DI system. The fuel injection operates completely independently from the ignition and APC systems. Larry West (http://www.saabturbo.com) is working on this right now on his '86 convertible using a 1990 APC/DI setup from a 2.0l 9000. I believe he's even got one of the 195hp "Red" APC/DI boxes for it... Should be fun!

I'm helping a friend of mine who is starting work on a full Trionic setup for his '86 SPG. Same basic thing, more wires... :) I've been trying to talk him into an Electromotive TEC-2 since it'll probably be cheaper in the long run, but he's adamant about keeping it all Saab... :) So we're looking for parts this weekend - already have a '96 9000 Aero engine & all electronics... now it's about making a plan.

I'd start by getting the wiring diagram from the APC/DI system - it'll let you know what systems you need to tap into. The good news is that the engine in an APC/DI car is not fundementally different from the non-DI cars (they sold them concurrently, remember) so 99% of the sensors and equipment is exactly the same between the cars. I suspect you won't need much more than power, an RPM signal (from the CPS), throttle angle (from TAT), and boost pressure (pressure transducer), but that's just a guess...

Aside from the APC/DI parts, keep in mind you'll need to install a crank position sensor, since your hall-effect distributor will be going bye-bye. The parts you need are from an '88 or later non-turbo - you need an engine timing cover, and the sensor itself (behind the crank pulley). That's the big PITA, since finding such a motor a junkyard is willing to take apart for you may be hard and you gotta rip out your motor... I'd plan a big budget, and use the opportunity for an engine rebuild - or maybe build the system on a new engine and swap when you're ready.
