Vacuum Line replacement... silicone?

Well, my 1987 900 T16S cvt has developed a poor idle when started cold. So, I looked around the engine, and I saw a few vacuum lines starting to crack. One pretty much fell apart in my hands, the one to the FPR. I replaced it with a clear plastic hose (not the best solution, but a temp one.) So, I am looking to run new vacuum lines...
What is the real advantage of using silicone vacuum lines? Normal (stock) rubber hose is MUCH cheaper, and it's not like it's that unreliable (after all, the stock stuff lasted 15 years.) Is there something else that is better about the silicone?
I know many people buy it because of its range of colors, but I don't really care for that. If I did buy them, I would probably get black. Will they hold up to more boost? The max. this car will probably ever see is 15 psi. Any info is appreciated!
