easy boost modification

I stumbled on to a situation that arose from tracing low turbo boost to a bad pressure transducer. I unplugged the transducer and boost ran up to fuel cut off. The car is an 88 spg with a new worked engine, 3.0 bar fpr and a.i.d. for timing retard. The boost is quite smooth and the knock sensor still senses nock at times and retards when needed. I got to thinking, isn't this what those performancecompanys mod. apc boxes are trying to achieve. I know for a fact that some company's apc boxes achieve their boost increase by disregarding the pressure sensor signal and the rpm signal and just listening to knock. The car runs great but one problem is that peak boost is not adjustable so my next project is to install a boost control device which is simply no more than a ball/spring type device in some steel piping that takes pressure from the manifold and pushes on the ball. once the ball moves enough it bleeds air through a port which leads to the waste gate. Splice that with a t-connector to the apc solenoid hooked up to the waste gate so if engine knock occurs before preset boost limit then the solenoid will open waste gate as it does now. The article on the dyi boost controller was featured in a sportscompact car issue about 2 months ago on boost control devices and was the most consistent in controlling boost. It costs about $30- in plumbing parts. Adding in inline with the knock sensor should be even better.
