Where do you plan on grounding the battery once located in the trunk? Do not ground it to any piece of metal that is painted. Try grounding to one of the rear seatbelt bolts. I would say connecting the new HOT cable directly to the original HOT starter cable would make for the easiest install. It will be Ok as long as it is covered properly, plenty of electrical tape, :) Also I hope you have bought an Optima battery, or one that can be mounted in any position. You really dont want battery fluid leaking all over the cargo area. As far as mounting it where you said, just be careful you dont drill into the fuel tank or a brake line, those things are in that area.
GoodLuck!!!
