Intake Cold Air for NG900/9-3 Posted by SLAAB [Email] ![]() ![]() |
There has long been debate on this board about the benefit of cone filters. Cones allow greater air to be drawn by the engine. The location of the cone in NG900/9-3 usually draws hot engine air through the intake. BSR has a heat shield for their cone installation, but I'm not sure about its effectiveness.
HAS ANYONE HERE PUNCHED VENTS OR ADDED A SCOOP OR NACA DUCT TO THEIR HOOD?
Although in most cases these look silly, it makes sense that if you can draw cold air from outside the car directly into the engine through a cone filter you will gain the benefits of greater flow and avoid the hot engine air issue.
I'd like to hear from anyone on this board that has one of these installed, how they got it done and their comments on any noticeable improvement. I've been looking at either punching vents directly over the airbox location or installing a scoop like the one on early 300zx's from the early eighties.
