some say its for a non existant EGR passage you can see a boss on top of the manifold near the internal hump you mentioned
Ive also been told it has to do with directing flow into the turbo.
none the less it is a restriction & if you are gona run more boost you need to get rid of more exhaust or the boost is useless flow is flow.
tou might gasket match the turbine housing to the manifold too
the .48 turbine housing is pretty restrictive itself I tried a .63 & it hit way too late like 4krpm so Id say get your exhaust system as flowie as possible you want as close to no backpressure downstream of the turbo as possible
I run 2.5 inch pipe cat back with a dynomax super turbo muffeler & still feel it is mabey a tad restrictive although I havent taken a presure reading Id advise 3 inch pipe with a 3 inch dynomax superturbo
