Even Abbott's ($400, yoink!) headpipe is only 2.5", but it's main advantage is the much larger radius curve directly off the turbo.
Also, don't the '96 and newer 9000 have the catalytic converter as part of the headpipe? I'm fairly certain that is in the case, so unless you are getting rid of the cat (not advised), it'll need replacing also. I'm not sure how the mounting/routing of the cat/headpipe differs on the ones where it is built into the headpipe, but you could run into a few more problems.
