Greetings. This BBS has been very helpful so far; let's go further. Suggestions sought for next 6 month stage of modifications... but please tell me WHY and HOW, not just what.

Goals:
Reliable, responsive and enthusiastic road car. I don't drag race, but I like to DRIVE when conditions permit. Desired maximum performance in 3000 - 5500 rpm range.

To date:
87 SPG
3.0 fpr (running pretty rich, probably needs a rrfpr).
SPG9 AID (running 20 btdc)
Saab Sport Exhaust
K&N filter
Aggressively-tweaked Red APC
Reaching, then backing down smoothly from 50% red boost.

The next planned steps:
Aftermarket Stage 1 APC.
New shocks (Bilsteins), poly bushings for sway bars & shocks.

Beyond that: ?? Your suggestions - - with discussion - - welcomed.

Questions:

Dump valve vs recirculating valve. Which, and why?

Do I focus on finding flow restrictions (and if so, how)?

Exhaust: OEM system through cat, Saab sport exhaust from cat back. Replacing OEM cat with high-flow in same size would be "relatively" cheap. But is it worthwhile: does the relatively small ID of the OEM system unduly limit gain when far greater gains can be had by enlarging everything from the downpipe back? Can anyone quantify or speak from experience on these points?

Intake: somewhere, I read that a 2.1 na intake manifold would fit, and be larger than, the oem 2.0 turbo intake manifold. Is this true; has anyone tried it?

Too many questions, I know; respond just to those that are of interest/within experience. It's a learning process.

THANKS!!!!!!!

Jim Watts
