The mid boost lag is due to too much retard too early in the boost curve. I have been playing with it recently. The regulator inline to the BTM will stop any retard at a set pressure, but you are locked into whatever rate (by the knob) required to get you to whatever total degrees of advance at max boost (9-10 degrees total advance at 15 psi in my case)so that you do not get pinging at max boost. What seems to work best for me is to have a pressure regulator tee'd off the line to the BTM along with a checkvalve. This way, I set the pressure at which the BTM starts to retard timing, but it comes in pretty hard (all at once) at the set point of the regulator. I have played between 8-10 psi as the set point for the regulator in this configuration. I feel that it runs best here. No fuelling problems and no lighting of the knock LED. It is a flawed solution, though. It would be better to have NO BTM retard below a set pressure and increasing retard above this set pressure. Kevin mentions that one of the BTM boxes has this capability (up to 5 psi according to his memory), but must be used with the MSD 6 box. From the literature and what I have seen, the MSD6-btm (all in one) does not have this capability either. I may have to make something else. I have puzzled this out and cannot think of any other way to achieve this sort of response curve. Ideas? Comments? Keep in mind it is a Mitsu turbo on a '92 C900.
