99 Viggen ECU Replacement-- Bad Idea

First Problem: Suddenly, at 8,100 miles, 1999 Viggen had "rev-limiter" cut-out at 2100 RPM. "Check Engine" light came on at the same time. Within that range, usual performance. Only happened when car reached full operating temp. Usual great performance until then...
Solution: Took car in today. Problem isolated to ECU. ECU replaced under warantee/recall for NC.
Resulting Problem: Performance WAY down in 1st & 2nd gear. 3rd, 4th reaches full boost and feels fine. 5th will have to wait for open road...
Issue: Before the change, even on the way to the shop until warm, the Viggen was the car I loved. It demanded full attention on dry roads in 1st and 2nd -- you had to be ready to control tire-slip and the so-called "torque steer" which was really just one wheel having better traction than the other.
Result: I love my Viggen (bought in early July, 1999) as I first drove it: it presented a challange and rewarded my skill as a driver. It was not a car for the ordinary. Now, it has been "dumbed down" to be "safe" for a minivan driver.
Thoughts: Even BMW seems to have built excessive understeer into the new M3, but at least I could bring it back to balance with suspension changes.
Hopes: Does anyone make an aftermarket ECU with the original Viggen mapping that doesn't puke-out early? Does that void the SAAB warantee?? The new M3 is looking pretty good right now, but I've driven and loved about 6 SAABS and don't want to switch.
Thanks for any and all responses....
