You can use either. One thing to note is that your CR will drop to about 8:3:1 in doing so... the 2.3l heads have a much larger combustion chamber volume than the '85 16v heads. If you plan on running a lot of boost, this may not be a bad thing, but if you don't plan on upping the boost you will end up with a pretty decent loss of power, especially at the low end.
