The one below the RFL BOV is a Diverter Valve (DV). Its designed as a direct replacement for the Bosch DV and sends discharge to intake just like stock. A true atmospheric BOV will discharge overpressure to the air in the engine compartment. To install a BOV you need to put a bung in the intake tube adapter for the discharge.
There is the risk of unfiltered air entering the engine during idle if the BOV spring return is not properly set.
The ghetto BOV mod is to simply disconnect the hose from the stock DV to the intake and plug the intake. Not recommended.
Easiest way to get that high performance intake sound is simply to install a cone filter (assuming you've also gotten rid of the turbo silencer). You will get a sucking sound when on boost and it will broadcast the sound of the discharge from the DV. All without the risk of unfiltered air entering the intake stream.
