Our 92 9000t still has the balance shafts. From what I've heard the balance shafts make the biggest difference at idle. IF you remove them they use sleeves that go in the place of the shaft to block the oil passages. If you remove the chain and sprocket you don't have to worry about the sprocket or chain guides going bad. In my opinion the balance shafts don't take enough energy away from the engine to worry about, unless you're racing and want every little edge over the competition. THe best reason to remove the chain is you won't have to worry about the sprocket teeth chipping off and being run thru the oil pump. My uncles 9000 sprocket somehow caused the oil pump overpressure switch to stick open and he lost oil pressure. It happened so quick that he needed a new engine!
