...I've settled on 10k using Royal Purple 15w40 year-round in this location
(Baton Rouge). Two years ago I did a lab test at 5k and 10k and determined that wear metals were very low and TBN (total base number) still okay at the 10k mark.
A couple of years ago R&T magazine had an inquiry on this subject in their Technical Correspondence column, and their response was that full synthetics could be used for a minimum of 10k and possibly 15k or higher under normal conditions. Prolonged idling, operating under dusty conditions, or frequent short trips would not be considered "normal" driving, in which case the interval should be cut in half. FWIW, their recommendation on a good fossil oil interval was 3k.
