i dropped the stock ecu about 10 months ago so i have been running mine differently. but what i can remember, the gauge should sweep from lean to rich during idle and normal driving conditions. when the car is cold (before the o2 sensor is warmed up) the gauge will sit on the lean side. but once warm, it should sweep. when you go to wot (don't remember if switch was at 75% or 85%, etc.), but once you hit wot, the gauge should read rich. theory is that under normal idle and driving conditions, the o2 sensor fine tunes the fuel mixture metered by the amm. once you go to wot, the ecu goes into open loop and bases fuel on look-up values driven off of load and rpm points; at least this is how i remember it (i may be partially mixing up my new ecu operation with the stock one, but that is the basic jist.)

if you want to see how the car runs without the o2 sensor offering input, you can disconnect the lead to the ecu and just have the gauge driven off the sensor. then it will sit still depending on where the mixture is at. i'm not sure where the stock set up should be in this condition.

as far as adjustments, you really can't make any on the stock setup. you are restricted by the ecu. if you are running higher boost pressures, you can make changes to the fueling by using larger injectors and/or larger fpr; then you may need to do some tuning, but you'll have to do that with resistors.

don't know if this helps much. it really is more functional with an aftermarket ecu in open loop because you can actually see the changes made to fueling.
