To all,

I have trying to work out a solution (on paper, at least) to putting together a hybrid-electric drivetrain/propulsion for a C900. The parameters are such:

1) The B202 motor will be the primary motor, especially at highway/cruising speeds. As such, it will also provide charge to the batteries.

2) An electric motor will provide the low-end starting torque from stops. DC motors put out gobs of low end torque. People could put in bigger turbos for highway speed HP and remove the starter and the alternator because the electric motor would replace both.

3) I would prefer that the B202 stop at stop signs and whatnot instead of idle-unless the charge of the battery pack requires replenishing.

Options for layout are:
1) A thin (60-70mm), permanent magnet motor (similar to Honda’s IMA) sandwiched between the motor and the clutch plate?
Problems: Space and complexity. When electric motor is not running, how much resistance does it impose on the performance of the B202.

2) A separate DC motor that engages perhaps to the flywheel by means of an electromagnetic clutch.
Problems: Space and complexity. There are probably tons of other problems that need to be sorted out with this.

3) A DC motor that drives the rear wheels only. This solution seems to have the most upside and very little downside. There will be AWD, no need to worry about clutching mechanisms and space. Perhaps the option to shut off the B202 in heavy traffic and crawl using the electric motor and not to have to worry about tiring out your leg with the clutch in stop-and-start traffic. Question: would one have to worry about gear ratios and RPMs since the two motors are completely separate from one another? And what transaxle would you use on the rear?

I think that there is enough knowledge on this board to sniff out the problems and solutions to these setups. I know that I am not addressing all the issues. I have included some links to provide food for thought and inspiration
