Torque disappears when accelerating uphill . Blow off valve gone?

I drive a 9000 CS 2.0 LPT (automatic), MY95, with Abbott Racing's reprogrammed Trionic and intercooler. Normally it produces more than enough torque at above 2500rpm with the nice "hiss" sound clearly heard when I ease off the accelerator. But yesterday afternoon when I went half throttle when going uphill, I heard a single "pop" noise coming from underneath and the torque was gone, and the higher the rpm, the higher a strange "sa sa" engine noise. Moreover, I could no longer heard the "hiss" noise when I eased off the accelerator.
Things returned to normal this morning when I accelerated briskly on flat ground, only to suffer the same problem again when going uphill this afternoon. Visual inspection underneath reveals no apparent leaks in hoses. Is the blow off valve (aka pressure release valve?) at fault?
