When I raced, NASA, in Phoenix with my 944 Turbo some of the guys would wrap their headers and such. A few cars had the header and cross under pipe ceramic coated. This coating was good to 2000 degrees and did actually keep the header cooler. Still hot as hell, but cooler. One Porsche shop in Phoenix said that they got 35 additional wheel hp with this coating, but this car had 400hp and the wheels and it could have been the dyno that day, better gas, a tad more boost, etc. They sell this service and everything they sell adds at least 35hp.

I suppose that anything that keeps things cooler is good, but this only really pertains to racing conditions using WOT max boost for LONG periods of time.

That M3 is not designed from the start to be blown. The engineers that design good turbo motors, also design proper cooling into the engine bay. Turbo engines will always be hotter under the bonnett than a N/A car, but the components that go into their design are made to withstand this MUCH better than a N/A engine with a bolt on kit. I am familar with ActiveAutowerke that makes these kits for the M3. These kits are the best there is for the M3. They should be as the parts alone are $12,000. This does not include the needed clutch. Also, start saving for the new engine.

So, does heat wrap and ceramic coating work? Yes, but you will never feel the difference on a street car. Plus the wrap is ugly.

Regards,

George
