It wasn't the first to come to my mind (FWIW, the cars that came to my mind were: Viggen, C900 SPG and NG900 Turbo) I think the NG 900 has the most potential for the least money, if you're prepared to do the work (which it looks like you are!) But the 9-5 Aero has awesome potential too, retains the total sleeper appeal, and has some nice advantages, such as the ready availability of coilovers. I've thought about this before, and I wouldn't go with a new car for a project, simply because you start out with a very expensive basic car, and you will almost certainly lose the warranty, which is the biggest advantage of a new car anyway. Though if you really wanted to go new, a 9-5 Aero is probably available for less than a new 9-3 SS Vector...
Whatever you pick, keep us posted, it's going to be one awesome car. Your 9000 is one of the nicest.
