I finally rigged up a temporary VDO boost gauge to test my 1999 9-3 SE HOT's boost system before the warranty runs out (10 days). I realize the gauge isn't exact, but figure the numbers will be close.

I was testing the car stock, and with an MBC upstream of the BPC (bleed blocked) set to about 0.4 bar (6 psi). My other mods are the 3" airbox hack, TBTC smoothing, K&N, and a Forge BPV.

Stock, the boost fluctuates all over the place on full throttle, from about 7 to 15 psi indicated. It usually goes up to about 10 psi, and settles at 7 or 8 (middle of yellow). The rushes up to 15 lasted a second or two, and then settled down around 7-10. Could my BPC be heading south, or are these irregularities normal?

With the MBC installed (set ot only 6 psi, as I mentioned), boost was steadier, but really high. It would hold strong at 17 psi (1/4 into red) on long hills, and usually stayed around 14 or 15 as long as I was flogging it.

My question here is: does the MBC have an inherent restriction that makes it boost higher than you would think (I set it using a bike pump and a pressure gauge)? Does anyone have a "safe" setting they prefer inline with the BPC? I enjoy the greatly improved spoolup and steady boost, but don't want to be cooking my turbo and disabling APC entirely...
