9-3 Aftermarket Springs Question

I'm looking to upgrade the springs/shocks on my '99 9-3 2dr, and I searched some posts that mentioned the B&G, Intrax, & Spax springs riding pretty harsh. What would too harsh be considered? My wife has a BMW Z-3 that rides like a go-cart (handles like a dream, though), and I think that's perfect. Are these springs worse than that? I don't want it to ride like a dropped mini-truck bouncing around, and I don't want to go too soft like people have said the Eibach's are. I'm going to be putting 17" wheels on with 225/45's, and I drive on CT & NY roads, so that'll have some effect on it as well. I'm just worried about making a choice and hating it afterwards! Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Paco
