I understand what you mean, I will add though that I think the procedures you've been looking at are the "how to modify the unit" vs. "tweaking". I gues it depends on how the terms are used though. For me tweaking is just turnng the pots and not soldering/changing anything within. I did a simple weak to mine 2 yrs back I'd guess, I din't see any harm in it, I had installed the 2.8 FPR as well. To me the boost was at best increased by 3 psi over stock, so maybe 14-15 psi max if that. All turbos are audible, but without being there its hard to say if what you're hearing is normal or the sound of a turbo that's on it's last legs, usually though you'd see some smoke out the back it that were the case, and I bet the boost would be very stable. Why not do the pot turning thing first and see how that goes (only takes 10 minutes), if all is good at that point, then crack open the unit and break out the soldering iron for surgery. The 3.0 FPR would be enough for the 15-16 psi it would create. I will also note that before you begin any of these mods, that you ensure you're car is in pretty good shape. Doesn't mean you'd need to replace all kind so of stuff and spend tons of money, just that you should make sure notihng is broken or in need of replacement(engine wise at least). Have fun...

See Ya,
Phil
