We are talking about ripping sheet metal. Its not like ripping paper. I would have to disagree with you on this. This set up is fine, if you want a brace add the diy erp brace and your done. There is no bushing like you stated in the above post just metal which will not flex. Remember that flimsy firewall is protecting your engine from coming into the cabin during an accident. Not sure if the term "flimsy" applies here.
Another point is that the Abbott brace which I think your referring to only supports one side of the clamp, if it was so great why not support both sides? wouldn't reinforcing both side add to maximizing strength. This brace is also not a very precise one and could easily be raise up and inch or down an inch during installation. It does not come with precise mounting directions just hardware so where is the proper placement for mounting this brace?
We could go on like this all day. You pointed out something that could be improved and can be done by another diy job. If you want to do this then feel free. Unfortantly making a clamp is not an easy task and to make it properly some machining must be done. I'm trying to allow other Saabers to have an upgraded clamp for a fraction of the cost. If someone wants to pay top dollar then they can get a $400 abbott clamp but like myself and others we would prefer to spend less.
